Advancing Health Equity for Sikh Populations In the Central Valley
Our mission is to advance health equity for the Sikh community, within the Central Valley, by providing health education, accessible healthcare resources in Punjabi, and support in navigating healthcare and insurance systems.
The Sikh Health Organization is deeply committed to our mission to improve the health and well-being of the Sikh community in the Central Valley. We want to increase health literacy and access to adequate healthcare resources for the Sikh and Punjabi-speaking population residing in the Central Valley. To diminish the language barriers which hinder the communication of vital health information, we hope to collaborate with health centers and hospitals in the Central Valley to create forms and care instructions in Punjabi. The Sikh Health Organization will set up booths in various Gurdwaras and local events to help further educate the Sikh population about nutrition and the importance of a balanced diet, and about the cause, prevention, and disease management of common conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. We want to ensure that the Sikh population has equal representation in medicine.
