My name is Harveen Gill, and I'm a third-year premed student at UC Davis. I founded the Valley Sikh Health with Simreet Gill because, as my experiences at various local hospitals in Fresno helped illuminate, Sikhs, especially middle-aged immigrants, in the Central Valley experience language barriers and, hence, lack access to a majority of medical resources. I've noticed that a majority of the Punjabi population have difficulty filling out forms and understand care instructions because the paperwork is written in English. I want to advocate with health centers and hospitals to create forms and care instructions in Punjabi. I believe that Punjabi patients would understand their conditions and how to adequately manage them if the care-instructions were provided in Punjabi. In essence, I want healthcare and health education to be more accessible and inclusive for the Punjabi population.
My name is Simreet Gill, and I'm a high school junior. I founded the Valley Sikh Health with Harveen Gill to improve the health and well-being of the Sikh community in the Central Valley. From my experiences at volunteering at hospitals, and shadowing doctors, I've noticed the struggle the Punjabi community has when deciphering paperwork and care instructions which are written in English. I want to help advocate for my community, and work with health centers and hospitals to help create paperwork and care instructions in Punjabi. Ensuring that the Sikh community will understand medical care instructions. my goal is to diminish language barriers and help the Sikh community have adequate access to healthcare and health education.

My name is Sukhmani Gill, and i’m a high school junior who is very passionate about helping my community. I joined Valley Sikh Health because I want to support the Sikh and punjabi community in the central valley! I’ve noticed through my experience of volunteering that language barriers are a huge issue, especially in the medical field. My goal is to create better connections for the Sikh community and healthcare providers through education, advocacy, and fundraising that will support the community. I hope to make a positive impact by helping families supported when it comes to their health and wellbeing.
